Post-Monsoon Hair Care Love

The monsoon is on its last leg while we say our farewells to the mangoes. Your hair for one is probably pretty thankful to see the back of rainy, sticky and damp weather day in and out. The monsoon season may be romantic but frizz, long-lasting damage and hair fall that’s gone into overdrive is certainly not. We’re going to help you manage the last of the monsoon and gear up for getting your hair back on track to glam in time for the wedding season.

RAINWATER DAMAGE

Getting wet in the rain is lovely but it takes its toll on your locks since rainwater is full of impurities and has a much lower pH level (4.3 on average) than plain water. Wash your hair as soon as you can once having gotten your hair wet in the rain.

USE A LIGHT-WEIGHT HAIR OIL AS SERUM

After washing and before styling, if any, take a few drops of some lightweight hair oil (we recommend Conatural’s Argan Oil) and smooth into your locks, taking care to focus more on the ends at first and massage any remainder into your scalp. Use this as you would a serum or leave-in conditioner. Not only will it minimize frizz, it will nourish and moisturise your hair on-the-go.

OIL MASSAGE

An oil massage once or twice a week can do wonders for transforming your hair and keeping it manageable. For those experiencing excessive hair fall, use Conatural’s Intense Growth Hair Oil on the roots and massage thoroughly for added blood circulation in the scalp. For those whose hair is frizzy and dull, use our Intense Luster Hair Oil to combat frizz and add shine. All oil treatments are additionally effective if you wrap a hot, damp towel around your hair once you’ve applied the oil. Doing this will repair damaged hair plus protect hair from then on.

DONT RUSH TO TAKE OUT TANGLES

The monsoon weather already is notorious for aggravating hair fall. Combing your hair once it’s wet causes more hair to fall out since the hair is weaker and more susceptible to damage when wet. Wait till hair is dry or even slightly damp and then have a go with a wide toothed comb. Keeping the curls? Don’t comb your hair at all.

NATURAL MASKS THAT LOVE YOUR HAIR

Aloe vera loves your hair in so many ways. It is nourishing and healing inside and out, so when applied on the hair in the form of a hair mask, it rejuvenates and heals damaged follicles. During the monsoon, it also helps to combat any infection causing bacteria around your scalp and reduces any itching you may have during the damp and rainy monsoon months. Similarly, pureed neem leaves and yogurt are also good options for nourishing hair masks that keep any itchiness and infections of the scalp at bay and the yogurt in protein will also make hair stronger.

KEEP STYLING MINIMAL

Using styling products during the monsoon can help you in the herculean effort of maintaining your preferred hairstyle, especially if it’s heat-styled, but they can more often than not just react with the excess humidity and make your hair greasy and flat. Keep simpler, less fussy hairstyles like braids, ponytails and loose buns. Think of the monsoon as the time you give your hair a break from styling. Or even after the monsoon is over, avoid styling and treat your hair to some detoxification if you’re serious about hair repair.

EAT HEALTHY

Eating healthy will not just mean keeping hair shiny and voluminous, but it will also make it stronger from the root, meaning less hair woes down the road. Steer clear of processed and unnatural foods and instead opt for fruits and veggies, lean proteins and healthy complex carbs. Adequate protein intake is particularly important when it comes to healthy hair, so indulge in some protein rich foods like fish, yogurt, nuts, sprouts, etc.

CHECK YOUR SHAMPOO LABELS

Opt for shampoo and conditioners that are vitamin E rich and packed with other naturally moisturising herbs and oils. Completely say no to any shampoos containing SLS and silicone. The SLS strips hair of moisture and silicone causes heavy buildup in the hair and scalp which will weigh hair down and increase hair fall. Use Conatural’s Hair Repair Shampoo and Conditioner that are completely SLS and silicone free and packed with natural moisturizers that aid hair repair.

LET YOUR HAIR AIR DRY

As often as you can afford it. If you don’t need to look fab and if you can leave your hair wet and let nature take its course, do so and avoid any excess heat from robbing your hair of precious hydration.

DRINK PLENTY OF WATER

As we always say, drink at least 15 glasses of water per day for easy, breezy beauty from the inside out. Your hair will remain supple and elastic, decreasing breakage and hair fall and just look gorgeous.

PUT YOUR HAIR TO SLEEP

Tossing and turning whilst sleeping can be disastrous for dry and brittle hair that’s already damaged. Follow a simple haircare ritual before you sleep. Make sure your hair is not wet, brushed and tangle free. Loosely braid your hair and secure with a fabric scrunchie. Avoid elastic bands that will excessively tug at your hair and cause hair fall. It’s a good idea to use a silk or satin pillow case to minimize abrasion and damage. Using a softer smoother pillow is also more beneficial for your skin.
